The Butterfield/Overland Express used this Davis Mountains' landmark rock formation as the first rest stop and watering hole on the route from Fort Davis to El Paso. Native Americans sheltered at Point of Rocks long before.
It's likely rain has always been welcome there.
I painted this to emphasize the fence line of barbed wire leading to Point of Rocks just as the clouds and distant rain shower seem drawn to the old rest stop in the high desert.
