Casa Grande in the Chisos original watercolor

Casa Grande Peak stands guard over the Chisos Basin and Big Bend National Park. It’s hard to ignore this mountain as it looms over the basin and serves as a landmark that can be seen from a hundred miles away.

I painted “Casa Grande in the Chisos” on a chilly fall late afternoon as it’s western face slowly disappeared into shadow. I think the rocky peak changed colors about four times in the three hours that I spent painting her.
