Lofty Places original pastel

Near the West Texas border along the Rio Grande, mountains and desert seem to stretch one after another toward infinity. I painted this pastel landscape after spending six winter weeks in Big Bend National Park, where cactus thorns far outnumber people. We watched the sunset paint the Sierra del Carmen in the rich blues and carmines and peach hues that mark the park's famous sundowns, miles not only from civilization but also from the nearest other humans.
